Nonostante il nutrito numero di oppositori, Ruth riesce a ottenere la sua vittoria in tribunale, creando con il processo un precedente nella storia legale statunitense. Il film è un tributo a Ruth Bader, seconda donna a essere nominata Giudice della Corte Costituzionale, nonché una delle figure più influenti del nostro tempo.
