Lui e il figlio si trasferiscono a casa della nuova moglie la quale ha già una figlia, Nicole. Bastian, inizialmente, si troverà 'in disaccordo' con questa nuova sorella ma con il tempo il loro rapporto comincerà a migliorare. Durante il primo giorno di scuola Bastian viene inseguito da alcuni bulli ed è quindi costretto ad andarsi a rifugiare nella biblioteca.
