A Gotham City il giovane miliardario Bruce Wayne è il misterioso Batman, che agisce contro i malfattori. La sua identità è nota solo al fedele ed anziano domestico Alfred con il quale vive in un palazzo-fortezza nei cui sotterranei si trovano numerosi e strani armamenti tra cui la Batmobile, l'automobile blindata capace di orientarsi in qualunque posizione per affrontare il "Kiddle Ride", il mostruoso veicolo di Oswald Cobblepot, il Pinguino, un essere deforme mezzo uomo e mezzo animale che, dopo aver vissuto nelle luride acque del sottosuolo di Gotham, ha deciso di emergere per candidarsi a sindaco con l'aiuto dell'amorale miliardario Max Shreck, l'assassino di Selina Kyle. Costei, donna mite e gentile, in seguito alla propria morte è stata trasformata, ad opera di alcuni gatti, nella seducente ma perfida Catwoman, amica-nemica acerrima di Batman. Questi, ingaggiando una lotta serrata contro i suoi astuti avversari, dopo alterne vicende riesce a sconfiggerli.

Durante la fuga fa la conoscenza di un ragazzo che lo fa andare in un macchinario per nascondersi.
