If he celebrated the twentieth anniversary of the band's debut "God Has Failed" almost exactly a year ago with RPWL, that is no reason for a driven person like Wallner to rest on his many laurels. It simply does not correspond to his nature. His new solo album "Voices" proves that this is not a platitude or a presumption." 'Voices' is fifty minutes of utterly immersive music that really gets under your skin, there is an immediate need to listen to this bewitching album again. He already knew how well his voice blended with former Spock's Beard band-mate and Big Big Train drummer/ vocalist, Nick D'Virgilio who came on board and, considering a third man, the Americans sought out Haken's Ross Jennings from the UK to complete the trio. All three found they had songs that would benefit from the three part harmonic blend, and so they pooled their resources, inputting creatively into each others compositions. Neal comments: "What a great pleasure it's been to work on this album with these amazing artists! It was kind of funny. We had been working on the songs remotely for several months before I finally heard all of us singing together at the same time. The first time I brought the faders up, I knew we had the magic!" Nick adds: "I've known and worked with Neal for over 30 years and I've been a big fan of Ross and the music he makes for a long time. I felt confident right away that this would be a fun project to be a part of. I was so right." Ross comments: "Receiving 'The Call' from Neal to participate in this project was somewhat of a prayer answered. As a long time fan of their work, I've been singing along to Neal's & Nick's records for years, so it felt really natural for my voice to slot right in." The tracks took shape with the musicians recording all of the music and vocals separately, yet the eclectic performances burst with the energy and excitement of the collaboration.     Rosalie Cunningham - Two Piece Puzzle (2022) 44.1-24 Country: UK Genre: Crossover Prog,Progressive Rock Format: FLAC (*tracks) Quality: Lossless [44,1kHz/24 bit] Time: 53:02 Full Size: 627.58 MB Denied access to her band members during lockdown, this amazing follow-up to 2019's debut solo effort has been lovingly crafted by Rosalie together with her partner Rosco Wilson, and the creative juices have most certainly been flowing. The only other contributor is the excellent Ric Sanders, fiddle player for Fairport Convention who appears at regular intervals, adding jaunty colour and depth. The psychedelic leanings of the debut are continued and extended here, and as usual, Rosalie's compositions twist and turn in unexpected directions several times in each song. She has an ear for detail, and was probably tempted to keep layering as ideas arose, but to her credit, she has allowed the music room to breathe, despite some complex arrangements. So Two Piece Puzzle is definitely a step forward from the debut, and is easily her best work to date, and given the quality of previous songs, that is saying something. The obvious point of reference is The Beatles, and their influence abounds, and many other influences pop up along the way. There's a nod to Bowie in some of the quirky arrangements, a tip of the hat to Kate Bush, and moments which really remind me of the late great Randy California.
