L'Accademia Hachimitsu è sempre stata una scuola femminile famosa per i suoi severi standard comportamentali, tra cui l'assoluto divieto per le studentesse di interagire con persone di sesso maschile. Eppure, da quest'anno, l'accademia è stata aperta anche ai ragazzi, senza tuttavia che tale regola sia stata abolita. A complicare la vita dei nuovi iscritti c'è il fatto che, su un totale di mille studenti, solo cinque sono maschi... per di più timidi e impacciati nel cercare di approcciare una ragazza. Le cose sembrano però andare bene per uno di loro, Kiyoshi Fujino, che fa amicizia con la più bella tra le sue compagne di classe; non c'è però nemmeno il tempo di godere di tale fortuna, che si trova coinvolto nel tentativo dei suoi "compagni di sventura" di spiare nel bagno femminile.

“C’era una volta un mondo in cui le fate erano armi.” In quel mondo le fate risiedono negli animali, garantendo loro speciali poteri. Gli uomini hanno pertanto cominciato ad asportate chirurgicamente gli organi degli animali posseduti, per impiantarli in esseri umani da sfruttare come armi belliche, dato che i soggetti innestati avrebbero acquisito a loro volta il potere di evocare le fate. Alla conclusione della guerra, i "Fairy Soldiers" (soldati-fata) hanno perso il loro scopo e devono essere reintegrati nella società, ma l’integrazione postbellica non è semplice e molti vengono segretamente usati dal governo, altri impiegati dalla mafia, altri ancora sono divenuti terroristi. La storia è ambientata a nove anni dal termine della guerra, in un mondo ancora caotico, e segue le vicende della unità speciale della polizia Dorothea, preposta alla investigazione e soppressione dei crimini legati alle fate. La protagonista è Marlya una nuova recluta di Dorothea.

Kogarashi ha la capacità di vedere il soprannaturale ed è stato posseduto dai fantasmi da quando era un bambino, ma ora ha imparato a reagire contro di loro! Sfortunatamente, è anche molto povero, senza casa e spera in una vita da liceo più felice. Nella sua ricerca di un alloggio, viene presentato a una pensione molto economica chiamata Yuragi Manor, che un tempo era una locanda di sorgenti termali. È così economico perché la casa è infestata dallo spirito di uno studente delle superiori il cui cadavere è stato trovato lì. Kogarashi non pensa che questo sarà un problema per lui. Presto scopre che il fantasma di Yuragi Manor è una sedicenne di nome Yuna, che vive nella sua stanza. Kogarashi non ha alcun desiderio di ferire la ragazza fantasma, e invece finisce per accettare di aiutarla a capire i suoi affari incompiuti in modo che possa passare all'aldilà prima di diventare malvagia. Una volta che è chiaro che sta bene con Yuna, gli altri inquilini rivelano i loro segreti.
