La vita di Sakuta Azusagawa prende una piega inaspettata quando incontra una giovane attrice, Mai Sakurajima, intenta a girovagare per una libreria con indosso un costume da coniglietta, ma senza che nessuno noti la sua presenza. Mai rimane incuriosita dal fatto che Sakuta sia l'unico in grado di vederla e che gli altri non considerino minimamente la sua presenza, anche quando indossa un abito meno stravagante o rimane lontana dalla sua vita da attrice. Yuu ha sempre amato i manga shoujo e, naturalmente, ha sempre sognato di ricevere un giorno una confessione coi fiocchi, di quelle che fanno battere forte il cuore. Quando il sogno però sembra avverarsi e un suo compagno di classe delle medie le si confessa... il cuore di Yuu non sente niente. La ragazza è confusa: non sa come rispondere e prende tempo, iniziando nel frattempo le scuole superiori. Un pomeriggio, Yuu assiste per caso alla confessione di un suo senpai alla bellissima presidentessa del consiglio studentesco, Nanami; la maturità con cui la ragazza rifiuta il pretendente la colpisce, e Yuu decide di chiedere a Nanami di aiutarla. Con il suo supporto, Yuu riesce finalmente a rispondere alla confessione del vecchio compagno di classe e tutto sembra essersi risolto; all'improvviso, però, è Nanami stessa a confessare i propri sentimenti per Yuu. Come risponderà questa volta il cuore della ragazza?
