Studente solitario e introverso passa le giornate annotando ciò che lo circonda sul cellulare, utilizzandolo come un diario. Yukiteru Amano, questo il nome del ragazzo, immagina di conversare con due amici immaginari: Deus Ex Machina e Murmur, di cui il primo è Dio del tempo e dello spazio. Rivelandosi come entità reale, Deus tramuta il cellulare di Amano in un Diario che svela il futuro. Oltre a lui, 12 persone possiedono simili oggetti, dotati di diverse proprietà. Inizia così un Survival Game fratricida tra tutti quanti, mentre dalla parte di Yukiteru ci sarà soltanto una certa stalker dai capelli rosa: Yuno Gasai.

La protagonista, Cardia, vive isolata dal mondo, esaudendo l’ultima promessa fatta a suo padre. Abita in un palazzo in stato di semi-abbandono, nei pressi di Londra. Il suo corpo produce un veleno letale, il contatto con la sua pelle fa marcire o liquefare ogni cosa, per questo la popolazione locale la considera un mostro. La ragazza ricorda solo di aver avuto una conversazione con suo padre due anni orsono, nella quale il genitore le intimava di restare sempre nascosta e di non innamorarsi mai per nessun motivo. Un giorno il suo isolamento viene interrotto da un’improvvisa irruzione delle guardie reali, venute a catturarla. In quel frangente Cardia conosce Arsène Lupin, un galante ladro, che l’aiuta a fuggire.

Quante volte ci interroghiamo sulla vita oltre la morte? Cinque studenti di medicina del Trinity Emmanuel Medical Center, nella speranza di trovare una risposta, si avventurano in un esperimento audace ma pericoloso. L'idea è dell'ambiziosa studentessa Courtney Hall che riunisce i suoi compagni in un laboratorio del seminterrato dell'università: ognuno di loro a turno si stende sul lettino lasciando che gli altri gli fermino il cuore. In quella breve ma angosciante esperienza di premorte, anche i più scettici assistono agli effetti del risveglio delle funzioni cerebrali oltre alle potenzialità della scoperta scientifica. Ma nessuno considera le controindicazioni. Le prime richieste del "Re" sono quasi un divertimento per i 32 ragazzi, ma le successive sono sempre più assurde e mettono a dura prova i limiti di ogni studente. Purtroppo non ci sono vie di fuga. Chi non completa gli incarichi sparisce letteralmente dalla società. Le regole del Ousama Game sono le seguenti: 1. Tutti i membri della classe devono partecipare. 2.
