Akira Tendo è un giovane impiegato in una casa di produzione. Per lui ogni mattina è un incubo alzarsi per andare a lavorare. Akira è letteralmente schiavizzato, vessato dal suo capo, vittima di abusi e le sue giornate sono interminabili. Senza diritti né orari di lavoro, è anche pagato una miseria. Un giorno come tanti, il giovane lavoratore arriva in ufficio e si accorge che i suoi colleghi sono diventati degli zombie. Tutta la città è ormai infestata e la sua reazione è di gioia immensa. Ora è libero e non deve più lavorare. Decide così di fare una lista delle 100 cose da fare prima di diventare uno zombie e cercando di sfuggire agli assalti inizia la sua folle corsa. Carico di entusiasmo e adrenalina inizia a vivere come non aveva mai fatto prima.

In un futuro non molto remoto il Giappone ha messo su un piano denominato Plan 75, con cui si cerca di spingere gli anziani all'eutanasia volontaria, per rimediare ai disagi sociali causati da una popolazione molto invecchiata. Una donna anziana con poche risorse per sopravvivere, un pragmatico venditore del piano e un giovane operaio filippino si confrontano così su scelte di vita e di morte.
