The Complete 1969 Recordings promises to provide "the complete audio history" of the band's debut. It will feature a brand-new Dolby Atmos mix by Steven Wilson alongside 6CDs of session material fully mixed by David Singleton (also available on Blu-ray.) The box also features every alternate take and mix variation known to exist of the Court material, plus radio sessions, all known live material from the era, and a number of versions of the completed album. For context, the compilation producers have elected to include a selection of "pre-Crimson" 1968 recordings by Giles, Giles, and Fripp. Steven Wilson was on hand to remix the album once more. Following his 5.1 mixes for the 40th and 50th anniversary box sets, Wilson has expanded the album to the Dolby Atmos format. "I've definitely had a bit more fun with this mix," Wilson said in a post on social media. "Watch out for solos and mellotrons circling overhead." The band promises an active Atmos mix, "with plenty of ear-catching moments to offer to listeners." Visions of the Beast is a massive two disc DVD set that is over three hours long and contains every single Iron Maiden video ever made, from Women in Uniform to live cuts from Rock in Rio, this has it all. Now some people out there are gonna accuse Maiden of rehashing their catalog and accuse them of being nothing but a second Kiss in terms of merchandising. To some point I can see how it is ludicrous to re-release your catalog twice in four years and have another greatest hits compilation (but in all fairness Edward the Great was touted as a releases NOT FOR long time fans but for newbies, hell the band even put up the artwork on their site so you could download it if you wanted to without having to buy the album) but this, this is a high quality grade A Iron Maiden release. Visions of the Beast comes in a double digipak format with some cool Eddie pics on the inside and a nice slipcase. No booklet, but the content itself more than makes up for that small misstep.
