Trama

Il protagonista di questo titolo è un medico giapponese che si trova a praticare in Germania in un’importante clinica. Non solo è un chirurgo dalla rara bravura, ma è anche fidanzato con la figlia del direttore dell’ospedale. Inoltre è una persona umile e con la testa sulle spalle… ma possiede una caratteristica che gli farà commettere un errore che pagherà a caro prezzo: ama e crede nel suo lavoro. Finora sfruttato dal direttore per aumentare il prestigio della clinica si imbatte nel familiare di un paziente che lo accusa di aver ucciso suo marito, non avendolo operato e aver invece dedicato le sue cure ad una persona arrivata in un secondo momento, ma con una certa notorietà. Chiesti lumi alla fidanzata e a suo padre, gli viene risposto che non tutte le vite hanno lo stesso valore.

La cosa si ripropone, questa volta sta per operare un bambino quando gli viene detto di lasciare stare e di dedicarsi al sindaco. Questa volta rifiuta. Salva il bambino, il sindaco, operato da colleghi, muore. Cade in disgrazia al direttore, e la sua carriera sembra finire… ma a preoccuparlo non è questo… forse non doveva salvare quel bambino… avrebbe dovuto lasciarlo morire… probabilmente ha salvato la vita ad un mostro…
