Lo show si rivolge prevalentemente ai trentenni di oggi e ruota attorno ad un gruppo di adolescenti che a inizio anni 2000 sono stati travolti dall’arrivo di Internet. Il titolo stesso fa riferimento alla velocità con cui si poteva navigare in rete in quel periodo, grazie ai modem di nuova generazione per allora.

La trama della serie TV Generazione 56K si concentra in particolare su due personaggi, Daniel e Matilda, i quali si conoscono sin da ragazzini, ma finiscono per innamorarsi solo da adulti. Le vicende si svolgono lungo due linee temporali che si intrecciano tra loro, vengono raccontate attraverso due punti di vista diversi e narrano di due fasi distinte della stessa storia d’amore e di amicizia, iniziata nel 1998 e portata avanti fino al giorno d’oggi.
