Nel 2001, l'apprezzato romanziere statunitense Michael Peterson viene ritenuto colpevole dell'omicidio di sua moglie Kathleen. Lui afferma che la donna sia semplicemente caduta, essendo ubriaca. Il suo corpo, tuttavia, presenta diverse ferite, compresa una la quale suggerisce che sia stata colpita da un oggetto contundente.
