Trama:
Il 20 settembre 1942, la giovane recluta dell'Armata Rossa Vasilij Zajcev giunge a Stalingrado mentre la città è in gran parte occupata dall'esercito tedesco. Il suo primo impatto con la guerra è difficile, a causa del caos che regna nell'organizzazione delle difese sovietiche, ma in seguito riesce a mettersi in luce grazie alla sua straordinaria abilità come tiratore, un'abilità appresa negli Urali nella caccia al lupo fin da bambino
