Trama:
Tratto da un musical di Broadway ispirato ad un romanzo di Christopher Isherwood.
Nella Berlino del 1931 la cantante USA Sally Bowles divide il suo amante inglese con un barone tedesco gay. Incinta, abortisce, mentre la sua amica ebrea Natasha ha i suoi guai con l'antisemitismo dei nazisti dietro l'angolo. La sceneggiatura di Jay Preston Allen mescola i romanzi di Christopher Isherwood (Sally Bowles, 1937; Addio a Berlino, 1939) con la pièce teatrale I Am a Camera di J. Van Druten e l'omonimo musical di John Kander, scritto dallo stesso Preston Allen e Hugh Wheeler con coreografia di Bob Fosse che fu dato a Broadway. 5 Oscar: regia (B. Fosse), fotografia (George Unsworth), direzione musicale (Ralph Burns), attrice protagonista (L. Minelli, bravissima), attore non protagonista (J. Grey, geniale). Strehler lo vide quattro volte.
