Initial D è stato adattato in cinque serie televisive anime, un film anime e due OAV prodotti dagli studi d'animazione Studio Comet, Gallop, Pastel, A.C.G.T e SynergySP. Un film live action prodotto da Avex e Media Asia è uscito nel 2005.

Trama
Ambientata in Giappone, nella prefettura di Gunma, la serie segue le avventure di Takumi Fujiwara, un diciottenne che, alla fine degli anni novanta, aiuta suo padre nella gestione di un negozio di tofu, occupandosi delle consegne ad un Hotel sul monte Akina, a bordo di una Toyota Sprinter Trueno di proprietà dello stesso padre. Come risultato di questo suo allenamento quotidiano, Takumi diventerà un pilota esperto capace di guidare con abilità su qualsiasi strada di montagna e contro ogni avversa condizione climatica. Il mondo delle corse lo aspetta.
