Il Miburo opera in una Kyoto sempre più instabile, dove le tensioni politiche e sociali alimentano violenze continue. All'interno del gruppo emergono profonde fratture a causa del comportamento sempre più brutale e imprevedibile di Kamo Serizawa, uno dei comandanti, le cui azioni mettono a rischio l'equilibrio e la reputazione del Miburo. Durante le missioni di controllo della città, alcuni membri iniziano a mettere in discussione la leadership di Serizawa, osservando come la sua condotta trascini il gruppo in scontri incontrollati e comprometta i rapporti con le altre fazioni. Alina è una vivace impiegata ben soddisfatta del suo tranquillo posto fisso alla reception della gilda degli avventurieri. Tutto va bene tranne quando la mole di lavoro si fa pesante poiché gli avventurieri stessi non riescono a sconfiggere l'ultimo boss apparso all'interno di un dungeon, sommergendola così di richieste e pratiche. Quando è vinta dallo stress e ha finito la pazienza, per tornare al tranquillo lavoro di ufficio, Alina si arma di un grosso martello e di una licenza da avventuriero fasulla (perché gli impiegati della gilda non possono fare un secondo lavoro pena il licenziamento), si reca nel dungeon e abbatte facilmente il boss di turno. Ben presto però si spargono le voci di un misterioso e invincibile avventuriero che agisce in solitaria nei dungeon inesplorati. Riuscirà Alina a mantenere il suo segreto e conservare il suo bel posto fisso?

In seguito all'incidente di Heath Oslo, l'esistenza dell'organizzazione antiterrorismo giapponese-americana CIRS è diventata una questione di dominio pubblico. Il CIRS è stato ricostruito da zero e le sue funzioni più segrete sono state affidate a una nuova agenzia: SORD (Social Ops, Research & Development). L'obiettivo di SORD è formare una nuova generazione di agenti per difendere il paese da minacce future. A tal fine, l'organizzazione ha istituito una serie di scuole su e giù per il paese. L'Accademia Mihama, più o meno lasciata a marcire dopo la sua brusca chiusura, ha ricevuto un nuovo scopo come una di queste "scuole di formazione specialistica". Ora affida alle ragazze disadattate che lo frequentano armi e munizioni cariche.
