Makio Kōdai è una scrittrice trentacinquenne dal carattere timido e riservato. Un giorno la sorella ha un incidente stradale mortale assieme al marito, il che lascia orfana Asa Takumi, la loro figlia quindicenne. Makio, mentre partecipa al funerale, vede la ragazzina e decide impulsivamente di accoglierla nella propria casa per farle vivere una vita tranquilla evitandole di finire sballottata da un parente all'altro. Però Makio, tornata in sé, si ricorda quanto lei sia incapace nel relazionarsi con le persone, facendo nascere questa strana convivenza.

Quando lo troveranno scopriranno che Vash è in realtà una persona gentile e generosa, ben diversa dal mostro che si aspettavano.
