Prima di essere il Professor X e Magneto, Xavier e Erik sono stati due ragazzi e due grandi amici. Fianco a fianco hanno militato per la CIA, andando alla ricerca dei mutanti in tutto il mondo, per invitarli a non vergognarsi di sé e a unirsi a loro. Ma mentre Xavier sogna da sempre l'integrazione pacifica nella società degli umani, Erik si sente minacciato dalla razza umana e pensa a un esercito di mutanti e a una guerra inevitabile. Da bambino, ha visto sua madre venire uccisa sotto i suoi occhi, in un campo di concentramento, dall'infernale Sebastian Shaw e sono state proprio la rabbia e il dolore a portare alla luce i suoi poteri. Adulto, con l'aiuto di Xavier, Raven e dei giovani mutanti che hanno reclutato, si mette sulle tracce di Shaw e lo trova in Russia, intento a costringere il Cremlino a piazzare dei missili nucleari a Cuba per scatenare la terza guerra mondiale.

Qualcosa nella baia di Tokyo attacca dei labor sottomarini, dei delfini, una coppia di fidanzati in un'auto ferma sulla banchina. Sulla vicenda indagano due poliziotti, l'anziano detective Kusumi ed il suo assistente, l'ispettore Hata. Si scoprirà che dietro a tutto questo c'è una creatura mostruosa, frutto di esperimenti segreti condotti da un centro di ricerca giapponese per conto di militari giapponesi ed americani, sfuggita al controllo a causa di una ricercatrice che, distrutta dalla morte per cancro della figlioletta, ha inserito nell'embrione alcune cellule tumorali della bambina con esiti imprevedibili. Alla fine toccherà proprio alla Seconda Sezione neutralizzare la creatura.

Nella Cina repubblicana del 1917, Liu Jinxi e sua moglie Yu sono una coppia normale con due figli, Fangzheng e Xiaotian, che vivono insieme nel villaggio di Liu, nello Yunnan. Un giorno, due banditi entrano nel villaggio e tentano di rapinare il grande magazzino. Liu si trova nel negozio e combatte e uccide i ladri quando diventano violenti. Durante un'autopsia, il detective Xu Baijiu, inviato a indagare sul caso, scopre che uno dei banditi morti era Yan Dongsheng, che è tra i dieci fuggitivi più ricercati dal governo. Il magistrato locale è lieto e i suoi concittadini considerano Liu come un eroe.
