Il film segue la realizzazione dell’album “Nebraska” di Bruce Springsteen del 1982, anno in cui era un giovane musicista sul punto di diventare una superstar mondiale, alle prese con il difficile equilibrio tra la pressione del successo e i fantasmi del suo passato. Inciso con un registratore a quattro piste nella sua camera da letto in New Jersey, l’album segnò un momento di svolta nella sua vita ed è considerato una delle sue opere più durature: un album acustico puro e tormentato, popolato da anime perse in cerca di una ragione per credere.

Akira Oda, uno studente delle superiori particolarmente bravo nel celare la sua presenza, viene evocato in un altro mondo assieme ai suoi compagni di classe.
