Ryusuke Yoshii accumula una piccola fortuna rivendendo in rete, a prezzo maggiorato, merci di varia natura, da borselli a macchinari medici, spesso contraffatte. Per farlo utilizza lo pseudonimo di Ratel, che tra i forum di acquirenti comincia a circolare con una sinistra nomea di truffatore. Il suo mentore, Muraoka, gli propone di investire su una piattaforma di aste online e abbandonare il reselling, ma Yoshii si rifiuta, per dedicarsi totalmente alla profittevole attività di Ratel. Dopo che Yoshii si licenzia dal lavoro regolare in fabbrica e si trasferisce fuori Tokyo per avere più spazio, cominciano a moltiplicarsi episodi minacciosi ai suoi danni, sino ad assumere i contorni di una vera e propria caccia all'uomo.
