Questa pellicola narra infatti di una storia realmente accaduta, di una battaglia epica combattuta al passo delle Termopili che vedeva contrapporsi 300 spartani contro un milione di persiani. Re Serse, spinto dalla sua insaziabile sete di conquista, invia un messaggero in Grecia, a Sparta, che viene accolto dal re Leonida (G. Butler) e dalla regina Gorgo (L. Headey).
