Tre guardiani di un faro si apprestano ad assumere servizio per le solite sei settimane su una piccola e remota isola al largo della Scozia. Tutto prosegue con normalità fino a quando i tre non scoprono un baule pieno d'oro, portato sull'isola da un naufrago in fuga. Saranno costretti a uccidere dapprima per difendersi, poi per trattenere l'oro e infine continueranno a farlo accecati dall’odio e dalle paranoie, fino a quando rimarrà un solo sopravvissuto.
