"Supernova" racconta la storia della ricerca e del recupero di un'astronave medica nello spazio profondo nel ventiduesimo secolo, e dei sei membri della spedizione: il capitano e pilota AJ Markley (Robert Forster), il suo copilota Nick Vanzant (James Spader), l'ufficiale medico Keela Evers (Angela Bassett), il tecnico Yerzy Penalosa (Lou Diamond Phillips), il paramedico Danika Lund (Robin Tunney) ed il tecnico informatico Benj Sotomejor (Wilson Cruz).
