Sono passati molti anni da quando l'umanità è stata portata sull'orlo dell'estinzione dall'improvvisa comparsa delle forme di vita sconosciute Gadoll. Quegli umani che sono sopravvissuti ora dimorano in una fortezza mobile alta 3000 m Deca-dence costruita per proteggersi dalla minaccia Gadoll. Gli abitanti di Deca-dence si dividono in due categorie: Gears, guerrieri che combattono quotidianamente il Gadoll e Tankers, coloro che non hanno le capacità per combattere. Un giorno, Natsume, una ragazza Tanker che sogna di diventare una Gear incontra il burbero Kaburagi, un riparatore di armature di Deca-dence. Questo incontro casuale tra gli apparentemente due opposti, la ragazza con un atteggiamento positivo che non rinuncia mai ai suoi sogni e il realista che ha rinunciato ai suoi, alla fine scuoterà il corso futuro di questo mondo.
